Sunday, September 23, 2012 - Grandma Berg and I drove up to Hartland to see Grandma O'Malley after I had graduated from NIU.  It sounds like I also had gotten my teaching job in Aurora.
Does this sound like a 91 year old grandmother?  She really seems fairly lucid to me.  We think she may have had pretty bad cataracts by the time she was at Valley Hi Nursing Home because she had a difficult time seeing people far away.
But according to this letter, she knew what was going on.  The first two pages were written on either side of a folded note so the ink has bled through the paper through the years.  This note is 38 years old.  I came across it this morning looking for Steve's grade school photo...which I also found.  ttyl, djb

Here's the lilac bush I planted last week at Conley's Farm.  It was a good thing we went out there, it needed water.

Saturday, September 22, 2012 - Rachel was staying across the street at her Grandma and Grandpa's house and came over to see Aunt Donna.  We were checking out a few things in the yard...picking up pine cones, etc.
All of sudden, I thought about going out to the farm and she asked her grandpa if she could go with me so we did.  The flowers also needed watering, so we gave them a drink.  She walked around on the paths out there and also played horseshoes.  We had a fun time.
And the plants and flowers were glad we came out to visit. Then, we stopped at the Purple Store on the way back.

Here's Rachel posing in the pumpkin cutout at the Purple Store in Kaneville.

It's way more fun to do something silly with a kid because they like to have fun.  see ya later pumpkin head, djb

I lit the burn pile on fire this morning shortly after 10 a.m.  It was so hot!  And I'm uploading a video of it as I write this. It's fun to hear it crackle.

Saturday, September 15, 2012 - Since it wasn't too windy today, I decided to light the burn pile.  It's been growing bigger and bigger with every storm.  It was time to torch it.
I'll put the video of the actual burning on here somewhere.  Gotta go check on my ashes.  see ya later, djb

This is what I saw toward the west when I went out to get the newspapers at 6:33 a.m. this morning.  Yikes!!

Wednesday, September 5, 2012 - Last night, while I was chatting with Granny, the temperature was fairly warm...can't remember the exact temp but I do remember as we were talking, I could see lightning toward the northwest.
It was real scary lightning, kind of lit up the clouds more than anything, but it was continuous.  I could see the stars...part of the Big Dipper and there was absolutely NO wind.
After I went to bed, I heard the radio say that there were storms out and about.  All of sudden, about 10:20, I HEARD the wind.  So, I went outside and brought in a few of my most delicate plants.  Good thing I did because the wind was blowing so hard, it surely was at least 65 mph.  And the wind chimes wouldn't stop chiming!
So, this morning, I went out to see a big, huge mess on the deck and in the pool.  I'll put those photos on the Boys' Blog.  see ya, djb
